This is a Short essay on Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was born Ishwar Chandra Bandyopadhyay on September 26, 1820. He belongs to a Bengali Hindu Family. His parent’s father Thakurdas Bandyopadhyay and his mother, Bhagavati Devi. He was formerly called Ishwar Chandra but after the study in Sanskrit language and philosophy he was given a title as “Vidyasagar”. From then on he is called Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. Since his childhood he is a brilliant boy and able to learn things and the ability to grasp the learned subject is very high in him.

He is one of the great legends in all the times of the history of Bengali. He is the first person who raised the voice against thee women’s empowerment and fought for the justice of women. He is the only person who changed society and brought changes in Widow remarriage. He is considered the pioneer for the rights of women. He argued for the rights and changed the mindset of the people. He works in Bengali are Bengali alphabets, Bengali language, etc they are used to communicate with the people and to learn the language. This famous person passed away on July 29, 1891.

Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was first born as Ishwar Chandra Bandyopadhyay on September 26, 1820, in Birsingha, Bengal Presidency, British India. Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was a scholar since his childhood so with the same knowledge and excellence in the study he completed all his exams. He gained many scholarships for his performance in academics.

He belongs to a very poor family so to help his family economically he worked as a teacher in Jorashanko. Later he joined Sanskrit College in Calcutta. There was awarded a name called “Vidyasagar” for his excellence in the Sanskrit language. From then on he is called Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar.

In 1841, he married Dinamayee Devi, and after that, he moved to Fort William College as the head of the Sanskrit Department. After five years of his service as the head of the Sanskrit Department, he is appointed as the “Assistant Secretary”. During this period he brought many changes in education. By the changes, there are many disputes between Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and Ramosomy Dutta. On a fine day on the disagreement on the advice by Dutta, Vidyasagar resigned from his post and joined as Head Clerk in the same college.

Vidyasagar fought against Widow Remarriage, to make women empowered by the values and morals of life. His ideology was widows should be given the freedom to marry some person to succeed for the rest of their life.

He fought for Women’s Empowerment that women should be equally treated as men and they should be given complete freedom for their thoughts. He made a school for the girls and also started a homeopathy clinic for girls. He works for Bengal are Bengali Alphabets, Bengali language these works made Vidyasagar great for among Bengalis. He passes away on July 29, 1891.
