History and Significance of Independence Day 

History: On August 15, 1947, India has achieved independence after many years of struggle. India was ruled by Britishers for over 200 years. The East India Company ruled
India for about 100 years. It was in 1757 when the East India Company won the battle of Plassey. After that, it started ruling India.

The entire country united against British rule. Unfortunately, India was defeated back then, Indian rule was passed to Britishers who ruled our country till India got Independence. India’s freedom struggle has always been an inspiration to work as it was the most non-violent adopted by M.K. Gandhi.

Significance: This reminds us of all the sacrifices that were done by our great freedom fighters to make our India free from British rule. Every year prime minister of India hoists the national flag at Delhi’s Red Fort and gives a speech on the nation. Military parades are also taking place on this occasion. The day is celebrated in all schools, colleges, hospitals, banks, offices, and all other kinds of government and private organizations by hoisting our national flag, singing our national anthem and many of them distributing sweets. The importance of Independence Day is not known for today’s generation. It should be known because behind our freedom that we all are leading, thousands of lives were sacrificed. A child should be taught from childhood itself about the nation and freedom of our country.
