Following the proposal, the UNGA held informal consultations on the draft resolution and proposed June 21 as the date of celebration of International Yoga day. PM Modi selected June 21st as International Yoga Day because it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special importance in many parts of the world.
